8 Facts About Underfloor Heating

Posted on: May 9th, 2022 by Active

1) Cost Efficient

With the recent increases in energy prices, you may have found yourself looking for a cheaper, reliable alternative energy source to heat your property. Underfloor heating may be the solution, although running costs vary from home to home, estimates suggest that heating a whole house using such a system can cost as little as £1 a day.

2) There is a choice between two different systems

The two different systems, a warm water system (also known as wet systems) or an electric floor heating system (also known as dry systems) can be installed based on the type of flooring in your property. Usually, wet systems are installed in the subfloor and work well in homes where floor height is not an issue where dry systems are used where floor height needs to be taken into consideration.

3) Gain more space

Aesthetically speaking, radiators are not always the focal point most people want in every room, due to how unattractive they can be. Their lack of visual appeal coupled with how they always seem to be placed in awkward positions within the room means that they may no longer be your first choice when fixing or replacing your heating system. With underfloor systems, the radiator is redundant, with all the mechanics and workings hidden away under your feet.

4) Controllable heat

One common misconception is that the heat flowing from beneath your feet is pleasant one minute and then becomes out of control as the room heats up the next. When it comes to heat production, underfloor systems are totally customizable. Smart thermostats are included in many systems to help manage the heat in the most energy-efficient way. With this technology, even the simplest thermostats allow you to establish and maintain your ideal temperature throughout the day.

5) Energy efficient

In comparison to traditional radiators , an underfloor heating system doesn’t need as high a temperature to create and maintain a comfortable heat level. This approach to heating properties means that running costs are lower which results in higher energy savings.

6) It creates a safer environment

Radiators, as a concentrated heat source, may get extremely hot to the touch making it potentially dangerous for children and pets. Alternatively, with underfloor heating systems, heat is diffused over the entire floor. Hands or feet cannot be burned since there are no zones of intense heat. As a result, they are ideal for usage in children’s bedrooms, nurseries, playrooms, and any other room in the house.

7) Even distribution of heat

As previously stated, there are no hotspots or coldspots. Both the wet and dry systems are installed in such a way that they cover the entire floor area, allowing you to enjoy the warmth in every part of the room.

8) It does not take long to heat up

Many people believe that because the system must first heat the floor material, the room would be cold for a while after it initially turns on. Insulation boards can be used to install systems, allowing as much heat as possible to be pushed up into the floor and out into the room. It takes half an hour (or less in certain situations) to feel the warmth, depending on the performance and brand of the system installed.
